Programmer tendency to preach [closed]

I've run across several SO posts that come across as preachy or condescending. Do pedagogical programmers feel plagued by thoughtless questions? Or, do programmers count self-sufficiency such a virtue that any perceived lack of ambition merits scolding?

These are some theories, admittedly negative ones. Can anyone offer some insight?
